Old Letter To Hip Hop

| |

(Written In August 2008)
I feel the nearness of your final chapter.
Because the game is full of thuggish actors.
You’re dying it is obvious where we went wrong.
It’s the negativity in every damn song
They say music is life that’s why your future is weak.
We all doing the same accepting defeat.
Now everyone strive to be rappers.
Dropping education for the lyrical thug character.
How can they love you but destroying your culture.
I feel no escape for your state of closure.
Hip hop is now based on imitation
Most lyrics have no meanings or self expression
Where’s the positive message for the future?
Where’s the role-models if most are substance abusers.
They ignore the educated rappers with big words
Song with inflated lyrics about sex, drugs and violence is what’s preferred
Tell me why true hip hop is complicated
Maybe because our population is becoming less educated
Though we have blacks in office
Your culture still remain in hospice

[Lost the rest of the lyrics…It was indeed long. Not a song but a series of collected thoughts]
